A brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin from the upper arms. This helps tighten and smooth out the appearance of the upper arm, as diet and exercise can’t address the skin laxity. Surgery is necessary to remove the extra skin. The skin on the upper arm may begin to sag as a result of the natural aging process, genetics or a significant amount of weight loss. An upper arm lift helps to return the arm to a slimmer, more youthful appearance by:
- Tightening loose skin around the upper arm
- Removing excess skin from the upper arm
- Possibly removing small amounts of fat from the upper arm using liposuction when necessary
ARE YOU IN NEED OF BRACHIOPLASTY?
Sagging skin on the upper arms is a problem that many people can eventually face. Once skin begins losing its elasticity, either due to age or a substantial loss of weight, it often lacks the ability to tighten back up to the shape of the arms.
RETURNING YOUR ARMS TO THEIR NATURAL CONTOURS
Dr. Barlow begins your upper arm lift surgery with an incision under the arm to reduce scar visibility. The excess skin is then removed and tightened to achieve a firm, taut appearance. While an upper arm lift is mainly concerned with tightening and removing excess skin around the arms, it may be supplemented with liposuction to remove excess fat. Several days of rest is advised after your brachioplasty surgery in. You’ll be limited to lifting objects or participate in strenuous exercise for a few weeks, but normal activity will be achievable within a couple of days, and getting up to walk around as soon as possible is helpful to the recovery process.
