BOTOX®
BOTOX® COSMETIC is a protein serum used by qualified providers to treat and prevent wrinkles on the face caused by underlying muscle contraction. It is one of the best non-surgical forms of facial rejuvenation available today and is capable of producing dramatic results in a short amount of time.
BOTOX® COSMETIC injections are a quick and minimally-invasive procedure consisting of only a few injections. You can expect to see results about three to ten days after your treatment. Visible results have been shown to last up to four months.
Depending on how many different areas of the face a patient is interested in treating, the amount of Botox required can vary drastically. This, coupled with the following characteristics, will help determine exactly how many units of Botox you need in order to achieve the end-result you want.
- Aesthetic Goals: Some people prefer a completely “frozen” result, while others like to maintain movement in a minimized capacity.
- Muscle Strengths: Someone with stronger forehead muscles requires more Botox to quiet the muscle movements than a person with weaker forehead muscles.
- Pre-Existing Situations: The more prevalent and deep-set a patient’s current wrinkles are, the more product will be required to erase them.
- Different Face Shapes and Sizes: A patient a larger forehead will require more units of Botox to halt motion than a person with a smaller forehead.
- Metabolism: The length of time Botox results last are dependent on how quickly each patient metabolizes the product. The faster a person’s metabolism, the more frequently patients will require treatment.
We customize every treatment per unique patient. Therefore, there is no “one-size-fits-all” answer we can give. The amount of Botox an individual will need is dependent on multiple issues, and will always vary from person to person.
Our experienced Aesthetic Nurse Specialists will evaluate your face and your desired results and will give you an approximate idea of what your perfect treatment amount should be.
Neurotoxins are injectable compounds that relax muscles, smoothing out lines and wrinkles. There are several brands of neurotoxins, and one of the most well known is BOTOX® Cosmetic.
BOTOX® Cosmetic targets specific areas of the face and neck to relax muscle tension and smooth lines and wrinkles. It is one of several neurotoxin compounds, along with Xeomin® and Dysport® that are commonly used here at Chesapeake Plastic Surgery. Cosmetic treatments using neurotoxins typically last up to four months.
Treatment Options:
Who Should Consider BOTOX Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is for patients in good health aged 20 to 70, who are interested in reducing facial and neck lines. Our highly experienced staff will work with you to evaluate which specific treatments are right for you. We’ll provide you with detailed information on all your options so you can make an informed decision about what is best for you.
What To Expect During Treatment
First, we create a treatment plan that’s customized for you. Since neurotoxins provide temporary results, your plan will likely include 3-4 visits per year to achieve optimal results while maintaining a consistent look.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered in a series of targeted injections that normally take about 15 minutes once started. Afterward, there’s a brief waiting period to make sure you haven’t had an adverse reaction (a very rare occurrence). Then, you may return to your daily routine. You may notice some minor swelling or redness, but each normally resolve quickly.
What Are The Results Of The Botox® Cosmetic Treatments?
After treatment, many people begin noticing that lines start smoothing in 24 to 48 hours. Improvement continues for several days afterward to produce optimal results. Treatments last for three to four months before they need to be repeated. The long-term treatment plan you create with our staff will determine when to schedule your next treatment.
XEOMIN®
XEOMIN® is a neurotoxin designed to reduce facial lines and wrinkles by blocking the muscle contractions that cause them. It is one of several neurotoxin brands we use here.
According to the manufacturer, XEOMIN® is produced with a unique process that isolates the therapeutic component of the molecule, removing unrelated proteins. This may provide the patient with a more precise application of the treatment to the desired treatment area.
XEOMIN® is a popular choice because many people have reported that it helps them achieve a fresher, younger appearance without looking “overdone.”
Who Should Consider XEOMIN®?
XEOMIN® can be an effective treatment option for those wanting to reduce lines and wrinkles due to aging and other factors. XEOMIN® is for patients ranging in age from late 20s through their 60s. You must be in good health.
Our staff of injection specialists will work with you to explain, in detail, how neurotoxins like XEOMIN® work. We’ll evaluate your skin and work with you to develop a custom treatment plan to help you look younger and feel more confident.
What To Expect During Treatment
Treatments usually take about 10 to 20 minutes. Our injection specialists will cover your treatment plan before we begin, then make very targeted injections. Discomfort is usually minimal, but if you are extra sensitive, we can provide topical cream to address this. After treatment, you’ll wait a few minutes in our office to make sure there are no allergic reactions (a very rare occurrence), and then you can go about your day.
What Are The Results Of Treatment?
Results vary by patient, but typically people start seeing improvements in line or wrinkles in two or three days. Improvement will continue for a couple of weeks. Generally, the results will last a few months by which time you will be scheduled to come back in for a touch up. Those who maintain their followup visits should enjoy consistent results throughout the year and lesser amount of toxin used at each visit.
Dysport®
Dysport® is one of several injectables that belong to a class of treatments called neurotoxins or neuromodulators. This class of injectable treatment is designed to reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck and work by relaxing muscles.
Dysport® can be use to target specific treatment areas, but doesn’t affect other areas or affect facial movements. You can still express yourself naturally.
Who Should Consider Dysport®?
Dysport® works for both men and women. If you are between the ages of 18 and 65 and in good health, Dysport® can be an effective option.
However, Dysport® may not be the best choice if you’ve had facial surgery or deep scars. Before any neurotoxin treatment, our medical professionals who have years of experience with injectables, will work with you to evaluate your very own unique situation and create a custom treatment plan.
Like all neurotoxins, Dysport® requires ongoing treatments to remain effective. Our team will help you create a schedule that’s affordable and effective.
What To Expect During Treatment
Treatment typically takes 20 minutes or less. Our injection specialists will target the areas to treat, and make a series of injections. You’ll then wait for a few minutes to make sure there are no reactions, and then you can resume your daily routine.
What Are The Results?
Most patients report seeing improvements two to three days after treatment, with continued improvement for a few weeks. Dysport® treatments should be repeated every three to four months so you maintain optimum results.
SCULPTRA
Sculptra is made with a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid. When strategically injected in the desired treatment area, it’s naturally and gradually absorbed by the body to help rebuild lost collagen. This is achieved through a series of treatments administered by a trained injector.
Who Should Consider Treatment With Sculptra?
Sculptra is for those who are in good health 20 years of age and older. If facial lines and sagging skin are an unwanted part of your life and you’d love the chance to tackle the issue with an effective long-term solution, then Sculptra may be a great choice for you. During your consultation, our staff will explain the treatment in detail and answer any questions you may have.
What Should I Expect During My Treatment With Sculptra?
Sculptra is administered through a series of injections, typically over the course of about three months. Each treatment can take up to 30 minutes. There is a brief waiting period after your injections to make sure no adverse reactions are experienced. After that, you’re free to go on about your day.

These are usually mild and resolve on their own in a matter of days. We’ll go over all potential side effects and more during your consultation.

RADIESSE®
Signs of skin aging have met their match! Radiesse®, the first dermal filler approved by the FDA for the face and hands, treats wrinkles and folds in the skin by filling lost volume as well as boosting the skin’s natural collagen production.
Hyperdilute Radiesse® is simply Radiesse® that’s been thinned out with a mixture of saline and lidocaine to boost collagen stimulation in additional areas of the body.
How Does Radiesse® And Hyperdilute Radiesse® Treat Signs Of Aging?
Radiesse® is made from calcium hydroxyapatite particles that are suspended in a water gel. Though there is an instant plumping effect attributed to the gel substance, it doesn’t necessarily “fill” the area of lost volume like typical hyaluronic acid fillers do. Instead, the calcium hydroxyapatite molecules stimulate your body to produce new collagen, which results in a firmer, more youthful appearance for a longer period of time as compared to other fillers.
Since hyperdilute Radiesse® is a more thinned out version of Radiesse®, it can be administered to a variety of other areas in addition to the face and hands.
Where Can Hyperdilute Radiesse® Be Used?
The following areas have shown success from treatment with hyperdilute Radiesse:
Who Should Consider Treatment With Radiesse® Or Hyperdilute Radiesse®?
Radiesse® and hyperdilute Radiesse® are for people 20 years of age and older who are in good health and are concerned with loss of volume and wrinkles. The majority of patients who elect these treatments are between the ages of 35 and 60. During your consultation, we will explain both treatments in detail and answer any questions you may have.
What Should I Expect During And After My Treatment With Radiesse®?
Radiesse® and hyperdilute Radiesse® are administered through a series of injections, depending on the size of the area you want treated. We’ll determine the right dosage during your consultation. After properly sterilizing and numbing the area with local anesthesia for your comfort, we will strategically inject the filler to restore lost volume in the affected area. Each treatment takes only a few minutes. There is generally no downtime after injections, but we recommend no strenuous activity for a couple of days. You may experience some swelling, but this usually dissipates in about 24-36 hours.
Are There Other Side Effects With Radiesse® And Hyperdilute Radiesse® Injections?
In addition to mild swelling, the most common side effects seen in clinical trials have included the following:
If any of these effects occur, they are usually mild and temporary. We’ll be sure to discuss all potential side effects and more at your consultation.
What Results Can I Expect From My Treatment With Radiesse® And Hyperdilute Radiesse®?
There is an immediate plumping effect from Radiesse® injections, with full benefits showing up in about two weeks. With hyperdilute Radiesse®, you’ll start to notice those lines and wrinkles improve in about four weeks with full results achieved in about four months. Results from both treatments generally last one to two years.
